  1. Hi Francis

Thought I would share my experience with you.

I enjoy participating in running competitions but because I live in the west, I used to dislike competitions held at the East Coast because it is so hard to get to in the early morning.

The other thing I dislike is waiting for a shuttle bus to take you to the nearest MRT station, particularly when the run is in some out of the way location. You can spend 1 hour running and 1 hour waiting in the sun for the bus.

The other day, I decided to take my foldable (JZ88) by MRT to Kembangan and then cycle along the Siglap Park Connector to the East Coast.

It was a breeze. Arrived in lots of time, was all warmed up for the race and then decided I would do a bit more cycling. So I cycled back along the park connector to Raffles Place MRT and made my way home by train. Again another pleasant trip.

One more thing is that it unlikely that your bike will be stolen at such events. The events are very crowded and thieves will not be so keen to steal your bike. I locked mine on one of the poles of the event tent.

Yesterday, I cycled to the Singapore Zoo for the Zoo run. A bit further than a I thought it would be. But no more waiting for the bus for me. Bless our friends at the NParks for Park Connectors. If only they would build a connector in the Mandai area.

So the great thing about a foldable bike is that it makes it easier and more enjoyable for one to get to other sporting events.

    1. Hi Wayne, you are right! Folding bike and MRT is really the perfect match. MRT bring people across long distance efficiently and quickly. For the “last 2km” – to the exact point you want to go- nothing can bid a bicycle. The combination of the two mode of transport bring people from “point-to-point” over a long distance, being green, fast, cheap, healthy and most importantly, pleasure, as you pointed out.

  2. Nice blog ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, with the rising cost of public transport, cycling makes a lot of sense. As for looking — and being — younger, I can certainly attest to that *grin*

Don’t forget a helmet and gloves though. It doesn’t take much speed to suffer a concussion!

    Cheers,
