I am Francis Chu, a product designer who used to work for Philips during the period when it was shifting its focus from electronics to health and lifestyle. I switched from driving to cycling in 2004 and have been enjoying it every day.
A large part of my job was to identify opportunities in product and service innovation to create high value at lower cost. Switching from driving to cycling has been the biggest and most sustainable innovation in my personal life.
The daily ride helps improve my energy level to deal with stress at work. However, cycling in Singapore has its fair share of challenges. The hot weather and road safety are common complaints.
I can’t change the weather, but I can testify that Holland is not necessarily better than Singapore. I have offered my help to the Safe Cycling Taskforce since 2005 and hope to improve road safety for cyclists.
This website is an attempt to “scale up” the benefits of cycling from one person to many. I am passionate about introducing this mobility solution to you.
The operation of the website and the bicycles are financed by the money saved from not owning a car. So I don’t really mind if this operation doesn’t make money—it would have been a total loss if I were still driving. Worse, I would have lost over a thousand hours of fitness exercise over the last seven years.
This blog is a space to share my experiences and inspiration from seeing the world on a foldable bike.
A foldable bike combined with public transportation is a fun and green way of commuting in modern cities. I’ve ridden my JZ88 in many countries during my travels.
If you are not doing any daily exercise, you can look forward to becoming 10 years younger by integrating cycling into your daily commute.
